Where is your coffee roasted?

Our coffee is fresh-roasted, produced, and packaged in Topsham, Maine.

How are your decafs processed?

Our decafs are Mountain Water processed. This is a very similar process to the Swiss Water in that they do not use harmful chemicals, only water. Swiss Water is the trademarked name used by the company based in Canada. Mountain Water processing happens in Mexico using water from the highest mountain (Pico de Orizaba).

Is your coffee Gluten Free? Dairy Free? Nut Free

All of our coffees are gluten free, however, we are not a certified gluten free facility. There are no other products roasted or processed in our facility.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Our current bags are not recyclable or compostable, but are the best for ensuring freshness. We are constantly conducting staling tests with many different bag materials (seems like compostable products are growing faster in bag options) in the hope of finding a package that meets our quality standards while also offering a more sustainable option. So far, none of these bags has worked as well to preserve freshness, but we're hopeful that package technology will continue to improve (we have seen big improvement the last year and a half). Please know that this is a top of mind issue as is preserving the integrity of the coffee that has passed through so many hands, and we will keep you posted on any new developments!

How much caffeine is in your coffee?

The typical cup of brewed coffee (8oz size) will have an average of 95mg of caffeine (with a range of about 70-140 depending on where the coffee came from, varietal, etc).  

Is your coffee mold free?

We have done a water activity test on our main coffee line, and all of them scored below .6, which is the level where no mold can grow.

Is your coffee Bird-Friendly?

Some of our coffees are certified Fair Trade and Organic. Part of why we love working with organic farmers is their dedication to quality and awareness of how they are impacting the environment. We understand and value the importance of birds as well and are careful in our selection of partnerships. Trees and shade are an important part of producing high quality coffee. This ensures that the coffee fruit can ripen slowly and help to develop the complexity of the final cup. We have personally visited most of the farms that we work with and continue to on a yearly basis to make sure that they are operating to our standards.
